Heyeröder Landstraße car park Mühlhausen

Thuringia (Germany)

Project description

In the course of the tourist expansion of the recreation area Schwanenteich in the Thüringer Quellenpark area, the city of Mühlhausen planned the construction of an inner-city car park for cars on Heyeröder Landstraße. The car park is part of the recreation area and serves to provide parking spaces for the increasing number of visitors.

The planning task was to develop the area with a maximum number of parking spaces (120), to allow the surface water to remain on the site and to design the open spaces close to nature. In order to meet the requirements of a Climate Parking Lot®, the use of e-mobility and renewable energies as well as solar LED street lighting were examined. The preparation of the funding application was also part of the contract.

During planning, sustainability-oriented measures were taken to adapt to climate change in order to meet the climatic challenges of the future such as heat, drought and flooding. This includes, for example, the integration of the existing tree population, the creation of retreats for native animal species with animal aided design and natural shading by trees.

An in-depth study of sustainability aspects was carried out for the project. According to HOAI Annex 12 (to Section 43 (4), Section 48 (5)), this is provided for as a special service in service phase 2. The investigation was based on Envision®, an assessment-oriented guideline for sustainable infrastructure projects. The result was a preliminary assessment to demonstrate the sustainability performance, including recommendations for action aimed at further increasing the sustainability of the project.
