On 1 January 2024, a real milestone for climate protection came into force under the admittedly unwieldy name "Act for Heat Planning and the Decarbonisation of Heating Networks", together with the Renewable Heating Act. Together, they create the basis for a climate-neutral heat supply by 2045.
The federal states are currently working on state legislation to transfer responsibility for implementation to the municipalities. The now mandatory individual municipal heating plan creates security for anyone looking for a rental flat, building a house or wanting to successfully lead their company into a climate-neutral future. Whether a location can be connected to the district heating network or whether another sustainable energy source needs to be found is communicated transparently thanks to the heating plan.
Together with the municipality of Wustermark, seecon engineers have come up with a particularly elegant solution for providing climate-neutral district heating. A data centre being built there will supply so much waste heat that the municipality could be supplied with district heating across the board - in addition to being climate-friendly, this would mean comparatively low energy costs for citizens and companies in the future. The results of the preliminary study carried out by seecon were already presented at a public event in the summer and met with great interest. A further information event for interested parties took place in January. Project manager Mark Ludwig from the seecon engineers was on hand to answer questions from the public. The next step will be to carry out a feasibility study so that realisation can begin in 2026.
Since November 2022, municipal heat planning has been funded as part of the National Climate Protection Initiative - seecon engineers also support districts and municipalities in applying for funding.
