The European Energy Award® (eea) is a programme for implementation-oriented climate protection policy in municipalities. It is process-oriented and serves to save energy, use energy efficiently and increase the use of renewable energies. Building on various activities in the field of energy efficiency and climate protection, the city of Markkleeberg decided to participate in the European Energy Award® in 2014. The focus of the measures in recent years has been on development planning and regional planning as well as municipal buildings and facilities. The city of Markkleeberg has developed a climate protection and a transport concept 2019. In September 2019, the energy policy work programme was unanimously adopted by the city council and the eea award was achieved. The successes of the municipal energy and climate protection work will continue to be regularly reviewed and documented. The city's climate council is supported in the implementation by seecon engineers, who are listed as accredited eea consultants.
