OPEN SPACE PLANNING CITY PARK BRANDIS

Saxony (Germany)

Project description

The Brandis town park has great historical significance and, with its existing inventory, represents a valuable asset of the town of Brandis. In order to preserve the listed park and to promote recreational and leisure opportunities, a redevelopment concept was developed by seecon engineers. The planning is based on a comprehensive analysis of the history of the town park and the important structures that characterise the park. The results of the analysis were presented to the public at a citizens' information event and their ideas and wishes for the future development of the public green space were discussed in a joint dialogue with the citizens. The ideas of the citizens and the concerns of the protection of historical monuments were harmonised in the developed city park redevelopment. The plan is to make the Brandis city park more attractive as a public open space for the citizens of Brandis and visitors by creating new qualities of stay in the park. At the same time, important historical and structural elements will be preserved and restored. In addition to the reorganisation of the path structure, the concept pays special attention to the reactivation of the circular square as the centrepiece of the Brandis municipal park and a new recreation and activity area in the southern part of the park.
