Leipzig Landscape Plan Urban Climate and Recreation

Saxony (Germany)

Project description

Growing cities like Leipzig are characterised by increasing density. The aim of the project was to derive a methodology for action that enables inner-city areas to be developed not only structurally, but also with a view to urban green spaces and to do justice to a double inner-city development adapted to climate change. With the concept, the existing measures concept of the Leipzig Landscape Plan, which covers all protected assets, was further developed in depth and a guideline for use in urban development planning, urban land use planning and for assessing suitable measures for urban planning was developed. The structured guideline enables the prioritisation of objectives and the derivation of suitable measures for adaptation to climate change. Decision-makers are thereby assisted in the selection of open space-related climate adaptation measures and given recommendations for economically and ecologically sensible measures and what priority these measures should take.

Existing data sources were systematised and designated for evaluation. The procedure was developed on the basis of two inner-city test areas and tested experimentally in an application example. This ensures that all relevant information is included and taken into account at an early stage in the planning process.
