Maintenance, development and information plan for the "Saxony-Anhalt Green Belt

Saxony-Anhalt (Germany)

Project description

The "Saxony-Anhalt Green Belt" is designated as a National Natural Monument. This unites both biotopes worthy of protection in terms of nature conservation and objects of cultural and historical significance in its protective purpose. The approx. 50-200 m wide Green Belt runs along the state border between Saxony-Anhalt and Lower Saxony over a total length of approx. 1,379 km, of which 343 km are part of the planning.

For the conservation and development of this protected area, a care, development and information plan (PEIP) is to be drawn up, taking into account both the flora & fauna and existing structural boundary relics. The planning includes a comprehensive inventory of the forest and open land biotopes (incl. FFH habitat types), the recording of various animal species groups (amphibians, reptiles, bats, mammals, fish, invertebrates and birds) as well as an inventory of structural relics of the former border installations of the GDR. The results are used to draw up guiding principles and development goals for the conservation assets, with special consideration given to the cross-border biotope network. This will result in conservation and development measures for the National Natural Monument, which will be bundled in an implementation and financing plan.
