Area justice and sustainable mobility in Leipzig (#FNMLeipzig) - Action in the framework of the European Mobility Week (EMW) 2021

Leipzig (Germany)

Project description

A report on the action of the same name and the call within the framework of European Mobility Week (EMW) 2021

The European Mobility Week (EMW) has been held since 2002, always from 16 to 22 September. The aim of EMW is to bring sustainable mobility closer to citizens and to make it a practical experience.

But why is sustainable mobility a topic that attracts attention throughout Europe? On the one hand, because mobility affects us all. On the other hand, because our daily decisions have a great influence on our fellow human beings today and in the future. Every day we move to work or to school, to the shops or to the doctor, to leisure sports or to the nearest recreation area. How we get there is often determined by the time available and the costs incurred. In addition, convenience and what is available have an impact on our decision-making. What is often not directly apparent are the negative consequences of our choice of transport:

Greenhouse gas emissions heat up the climate, exhaust fumes are a danger to people and
Environment, traffic noise and accidents endanger health and the need for land,
energy and raw materials is immense.

Against the backdrop of these challenges, the calls for the transformation of the transport system or the transport turnaround in local passenger transport are becoming louder and louder. With the action "Area Justice and Sustainable Mobility in Leipzig" (#FNMLeipzig), we have responded to these calls. With this, we wanted to contribute to the discussion in the Leipzig context with our know-how and support the city of Leipzig in achieving its strategic goals.

We would like to emphasise that it is not a question of banning the car or motorised private transport (MIV). Rather, we advocate the appropriate and demand-oriented use and combination of different means of transport. As companies and initiatives with a focus on sustainability, we want to contribute to the common good by improving the quality of life for citizens in cities and communities. In our daily work, we do this by bringing together sustainable urban and transport planning or by providing sustainable mobility services.

In our report we present the background, the concept and the implementation, a brief description and interpretation of the resulting images, as well as a critical and concluding view of the results. This report and the image material are available for download here:
